A de-cluttering decision made
I moved the jacket from the bedroom where it had been hanging for years to the laundry. It stayed there for some time, blocking the doorway and stopping the door from closing. Finally, after photographs had been taken I moved it to the couch in the family room so that it was in direct sight.
My friend Liz, in response to my blog commented, " Strive for minimalism - the memories, the culture, the family, the country that you embraced and in return embraced you, will always be there." I determined that Liz was right; I didn't need a jacket to remind me of the rich physical beauty of Cebu, it's vibrant culture or the loving and hospitable people; especially my Filipino families and friends!
I took two badges off the jacket; one from Australia and one from the Philippines, as mementos. I reminded myself of my goal to be a minimalist sentimentalist and quickly disposed of the jacket before I changed my mind yet again.
The jacket has gone but the memories remain unchanged. Rotary Exchange and all that it entailed was a blessing in my life and jacket or no jacket I will always be filled with immense gratitude, joy and the fondest of memories of a year that has continued to grace my life every day.
