We spent ages bumping up and down in steady motion. Part of the fun, though was to hit the ground with a jolt sending the other party flying up from their seat at the other end of the battered board. (This fun was somewhat diminished when tyres were placed beneath the boards.) Sometimes, especially when I was alone, I liked to stand in the middle of the see-saw shifting my weight to find perfect balance; quite a difficult feat to achieve. The see-saw was usually painted but years in the sun meant the paint was often chipped, cracked and flaking and the timber was rough, often causing splinters.
Today I am likening my life to the see-saw. I seem to be either happily riding high, hitting the ground with a thud or grappling with splinters. Sometimes, I manage all three in one day! Everyday is about seeking that elusive balance.
Life is a see-saw. No matter how hard we work or how long we stand in the middle of the plank, we risk tipping one way or the other. The biggest challenge is to manage the ground hitting thuds, to remove the annoying splinters and to remind yourself of the fun you will experience when the see-saw throws you happily in the air.
Where are you on the see-saw today?
