I clearly remember buying Jingle from Foodarama in Gen. Maxilom Avenue. In those days Cebu didn't have a great range of magazines but the disco era, my age and my fondness for Inner Circle Disco ensured I was very interested in keeping up with the hits and knowing what songs were on the charts. And, knowing the lyrics was pretty important too. Listening to the radio was a fairly significant form of entertainment in those days and as teenagers we were pretty keen to know the songs that made the Top 40 each week. I am guessing that the chords made Jingle a prized possession to those with guitars, as well.
The Jingle Top Single in my edition was Endless Love by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie. The movie of the same name starring Brooke Shields was a big hit; and yes, I definitely saw it! Filipino Rey Valera was at 6th position with his hit, Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo. And cover girl Lea Salonga, featured in the magazine with the song, I am but a small voice (Ako'y Munting Tinig.
My favourites included 'Celebration' (Kool and the Gang), an Inner Circle favourite; Air Supply's, 'The One that you Love' (an Australian band) and 'Believe it or Not', the theme from Greatest American Hero.
So many years ago, but I guess happy memories remain strongest!
